Spinal Cord Injuries And The Compensation You Deserve

On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Spinal Cord Injuries on Thursday, November 5, 2015.

Spinal cord injuries, when caused by impact or disease, can influence the way you can use your body. If there is a severe enough injury, you could be paralyzed from the point of injury downward. Even lesser injuries can cause you to struggle with bearing weight or moving your arms or legs.

Spinal cord injuries need to be treated as quickly as possible to remove the pressure from the injury. Too much pressure on the nerves will damage them, making them unable to work correctly and potentially destroying them. When that happens, the spinal nerves often do no correct themselves or heal, making a permanent disability a real possibility. The major problem associated with these injuries is the inability, in most cases, to reconnect or reroute nerve signals once they are lost.

Spinal cord injuries are either complete or incomplete. What this means is that a patient is either completely unable to move or feel anything below the injury or is able to feel some sensation below the injury. In some cases, the organs are affected, making it possible for the person to suffer from chronic pain, bowel, or bladder dysfunctionality.

With a spinal cord injury, you may need long-term care. Your attorney will work with you to make a case against the person who caused you harm, so you can get the compensation you need to make that care a reality. No amount of compensation is going to heal you faster, but it can help you access the kind of medical care you need to further your rehabilitation efforts.
