What You Should Do If You’re Hit By An Uninsured Driver

If you’re hit by an uninsured driver, your worst fears may have just come to fruition. Not only are you struggling with injuries that cost a small fortune, but now you have no way to guarantee that you’ll be compensated.
You’ll be able to file a claim by suing the person in court, but there are some steps to take before you get to that point. First, get as much information about the driver as you can. You need license plate IDs, his or her name, phone number, and driver’s license number, photos of the scene and other information if you’re able to get it.
Call the police, because if the driver doesn’t have insurance and isn’t being cooperative, the police may need to step in. When the police document the collision, you’ll be able to have a solid report for your own insurance company. On top of that, it’s a state law that drivers need insurance and not having it is breaking the law.
Next, call your insurance company. If you have uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, this coverage may help you get the money you need while you recover. If the other driver is underinsured, this coverage can also help you make up the difference in your damages received.
If all else fails, you may be able to receive compensation from your own insurance company through collision and personal injury protection coverage. If you have health insurance, then that should help cover some or all of your medical bills.
