Repeat Drunk Driver Possibly At Fault In Texas Crash

Community residents often hold the safety of students and teachers as a top priority. For that reason, many were shocked to hear about a recent auto accident that occurred last Saturday night in Wharton, Texas. It happened on Highway 59, and it involved a Whitehouse teacher and multiple students.
According to the Whitehouse Independent School District Superintendent, the two students and the teacher were all injured in the crash. He stated that they were taken to a Houston hospital by care-flight, and they received attention for their injuries. As of the Sunday afternoon after the accident, the students remained hospitalized. The males student reportedly suffered head and back injuries while the female student suffered a head injury.
The teacher had been driving a car with four students, including the two that were injured, at the time of the accident. Their vehicle was struck by a Toyota pickup truck that had been traveling the wrong way on Highway 59. The driver of the truck that caused the collision consented to take a blood test at the hospital. So far, the results of the blood test have not been made public. It may take weeks before the results are known.
According to the District Attorney, the incident is being considered a DWI case. The truck driver had a previous DWI in December 2012. She also may have had a device in her vehicle that was intended to prevent her from driving drunk. That device was mandated as a part of her December 2012 DUI offense.
The fact that a teacher and her students were injured in this case is saddening, but any car accident that occurs on a Texas road can be just as tragic. Luckily, anyone involved in an auto accident might be able to benefit from the advice of an attorney who is experienced in this area of law.
