Army Studies Motorcycle Accidents, Offers Tips To Drivers

Safety. It’s the key to making sure you’re safe on the roads. As a motorcyclist, you don’t want to have an accident that can leave you with injuries and other drivers don’t, either.
An article from July 17 points out how far motorcycle safety has come in the last decade. Now, motorcycles have better ergonomics, better brakes and even more responsive controls. Those changes alone can’t stop motorcycle accidents, though.
The Army has reported seeing a 62-percent increase in the number of motorcycle fatalities and accidents. Because of the risks to motorcyclists, a list of tips and techniques was released. For instance, riding with a buddy on a second motorcycle can make it easier for drivers to see you and your companion. Slowing down can prevent the risk of serious injuries in the case of an accident.
The article also states that it’s important to look closely for motorcyclists on the road. They more easily fit into blind sports and may be difficult for drivers to see. If a driver is changing lanes, he should be sure to double check that no one is beside his vehicle before moving over.
These tips come after reports from the Texas Department of Transportation revealed that there were 467 motorcycles and passengers killed in 2012 alone. While they can be helpful in preventing future accidents, these tips can’t do anything about the past. If you’ve been hurt in a crash, you should be able to seek compensation from the negligent driver who struck you. You could be able to claim compensation for medical bills, lost wages and other needs.
