A biker from Texas is facing a DUI for a wreck he allegedly caused while traveling to a bike rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. This rally is a popular one that draws in bikers from around the world, which is why you may have heard about it before. The Aug. 4 report states that a biker was involved in an accident along Highway 34 in Sturgis when he caused a head-on crash that put a number of people in the hospital. They suffered serious injuries. One of the people who was injured had to be sent immediately to surgery.
It was reported that a 39-year-old from Oklahoma was the person with life-threatening injuries. He was allegedly struck by a 41-year-old from Paradise, Texas. The 41-year-old had crossed the centerline of the highway, police reported, and that resulted in him colliding with the 39-year-old man and his 54-year-old passenger. Another motorcycle was also struck, resulting in injuries for the driver.
The 41-year-old man who caused the crash, police reported, has been charged with a DUI. He also faces a charge of vehicular battery. Unfortunately, no one involved in the crash was wearing a helmet when the incident took place.
The rally that was taking place in Sturgis may have been the start of issues for this crash. It was reported that 33 people ended up being arrested for DUIs. Eleven felony arrests were made at the event, and 10 accidents took place that involved injuries. One and a half-pounds of marijuana and THC edibles were also allegedly discovered at the rally.
If you’re in a severe accident like this one while in Texas, know that you don’t have to face it alone. Your health comes first; when you’re ready, you can look into your options for compensation.
