Car And Truck Accidents From DWIs Expected Around Fourth Of July

On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Car Accidents on Friday, July 11, 2014.

Here’s some news about a horrible accident that took place in Texas just a few days before the Fourth of July holiday. Five people were killed in a wrong-way accident, news reports state, and another four were killed in other accidents in the last eight days. That has caused some concern, since it still isn’t the Fourth of July weekend.

Officers in Texas have reportedly been asking residents and people on the roadways to take care to be safe over the holiday to prevent car and truck accidents. The Harris County sheriff stated that in two cases, families were completed wiped out just traveling as part of their day-to-day lives. Now, all police can do is ask people to slow down, drive sober and to buckle up, and they will be having extra patrols to make sure that happens.

Authorities have reported that they expect more DWI cases over the holiday weekend both on the roads and in the waters. Both drivers and boaters can be stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The police in Harris County have reported that 501 crashes have taken place this year with drivers involved who had blood alcohol levels above the legal limit. In those crashes, 48 people were killed. In some of the recent collisions, the sheriff suggested that alcohol may have had some part in the accidents, and the person who was driving likely had someone with them who could have stopped them. In one recent case, a man crashed his vehicle into a Ford F-150, killing five of the six people inside. In another, four people were killed when a van ran a red light and collided with them; one other person was injured.

Truck accidents and car accidents can be prevented in many cases simply by stopping intoxicated drivers from being on the roads. Police are ramping up for the holiday traffic, but it’s important to be vigilant on the roads.
