If you’ve ever been in a near-miss where someone was headed down the wrong side of the road or have been in an accident because a driver wasn’t paying attention, then you probably understand the horrors that took place following an accident on March 8 in Texas. Alcohol might have been a factor in this crash, which has left one family torn apart and facing several deaths.
The story reported by authorities says that at least three people, two of whom were children, were killed when a truck headed the wrong way on a four-lane highway struck their mother’s vehicle. The truck, which was traveling on U.S. Highway 67, struck the 22-year-old woman’s car, killing her and her sons who were 2 and 5 years old. She reportedly had another child in the vehicle with her who survived; he or she was taken to the hospital for treatment, but there have been no reports on the child’s condition.
The police at the scene have assessed the situation and suggested that alcohol may have been a factor. The Alavardo police chief stated that there were bottles and cans of beer in the cab of the truck. Some were open, while others were not. The police did not say if the truck was also speeding at the time of the accident or if the driver was trying to stop his vehicle.
The chief indicated that there is suspicion that the driver was drunk at the time. The truck driver has not yet been charged and has been in the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. The blood alcohol test has not come back yet.
