What Do You Do Following A Car Accident In Texas?
On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Car Accidents on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
In Texas, when you get into a car accident, it’s important that you know what to do. Have you been hurt? Is the other driver injured? Has anyone died in the accident? Why did the other driver hit you?
All of these are important questions to ask yourself. First, you’ll want to ask yourself if anyone in your vehicle needs medical attention. If you only have cuts and bruises or other minor injuries, check on the other vehicles involved. Is everyone okay or was there a serious injury? You’ll need to call 911 to have medical teams dispatched to your location. When the EMS arrives, the Emergency Medical Technician can review each person at the scene for injuries and take them to the hospital if necessary.
If you only have minor injuries, you will need to provide some information to police and get some information from the other people involved in the accident. First, provide your driver’s license number and get the other driver’s license ID as well. Then, find out about insurance and provide your insurance proof to police. You’ll need to provide your registration number to police and give them your name and address as well. You’ll want to collect the names, phone numbers and addresses of witnesses and those involved in the accident for your personal injury claim.
Next, fault will need to be determined. This can be done with help from witnesses and a reconstruction team. Police will review the information, and then the person at fault will be determined. It’s possible for you and the other driver to be partially responsible, but if it’s a case where the other driver was at fault, you’ll need to report this to your insurance and decide how you want to move forward with a claim.
