What Are Some Car Accident Facts For The Nation?

On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Car Accidents on Friday, March 25, 2016.

Car accidents can be caused by many things, but there are a few common denominators. Both alcohol and distractions can be some of the worst causes of injuries and fatalities. If you’re hurt because someone else was driving drunk or was texting, it’s important that you are compensated fairly.

How serious are car accidents?

Car accident are one of the largest threats to safety in the United States. In fact, they account for more accidental deaths than any other factors other than drug poisoning.

Who is more likely to cause a fatal drunk driving accident?

A 2009 report showed that around 13.7 percent of all fatal drunk driving collisions were caused by females. In comparison, 25.4 percent were caused by men, making it much more likely for men to be at fault.

Out of all drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 who were involved in collisions with fatalities, 34.5 percent were intoxicated. Alcohol is a steady threat, and it’s something that puts many people in harm’s way when they’re driving.

How many fatalities are caused by distractions?

It’s estimated, according to a 2009 report, that around 16 percent of all fatalities on the road are caused by distractions. That adds up to around 4,898 deaths due to things like texting and driving, looking away from the road, talking on the phone, and more.

How many injuries were caused by distractions?

According to the same report, around 20 percent of all crashes are caused by distractions. These crashes led to around 448,000 injuries that could have been avoided if not for looking away from the road or being distracted from what’s up ahead.
