Drunk Driving Crash Still Haunts Texas Mother 5 Years Later

On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Brain Injury on Friday, February 21, 2014.

Some say that time heals all wounds. But for one Texas mother, this statement couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s been nearly five years since a tragic drunk driving accident changed her family’s life forever; but recently this month, those wounds were reopened when she visited a prison to confront the man responsible for causing the accident.

Although the imprisoned man offered up a number of apologies for his negligent actions in 2009, the Texas woman knows that his words will never change what happened. In the car crash, her son suffered severe brain damage that almost left him brain dead. Now 6 years old, it’s unknown what kinds of life-long difficulties he will face because of his disability.

What’s more tragic is the fact that this accident may have been prevented had DUIs in other states compounded, revoking the man’s driver’s license or even issuing an ignition interlock device prior to the crash. It’s because of these prior alcohol-related charges though that has a ppeals court considering enhancing the man’s sentence.

Hearing drunk driving stories such as this can be hard for some of our readers because they know exactly what the victims are going through and likely feel the same pain and frustration they feel. But just like the woman in this case, readers who find themselves in similar situations do have the right to seek legal representation and can file a personal injury claim against a guilty driver. And although this won’t change what has already happened, it may help a person move forward with their life and possibly even heal in the process.
