School Buses Involved In Crashes With Trucks This Week
On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Truck Accidents on Thursday, September 19, 2013.
On Monday, at least 17 students and staff members from Bruceville-Eddy Independent School District were injured in a head-on crash with a dump track on Interstate 25 near Lorena. According to reports, 15 students and one adult were treated and released at a local hospital following the crash, but the woman driving the bus was still hospitalized as of Tuesday.
The truck had apparently been hauling large boulders when it veered into oncoming traffic. As a result of the crash, a teacher’s aid was thrown from the bus and the bus driver needed to be extricated. According to police, the accident would have been worse had the bus driver not taken evasive action that diverted the impact toward herself.
Another collision took place in Houston earlier this week between a school bus and a cement truck on Beltway 8. Luckily, there were no children on the bus at the time of the accident, and the bus driver was not injured, though the cement truck driver suffered minor injuries.
When it comes to truck accidents, liability isn’t always easy to determine. There are a variety of possible causes for truck accidents, including the negligence of the driver and equipment malfunctioning. Those who are injured as a result of a truck accident will need to look at the evidence available in the case, with an eye toward determining whether the bus driver was operating his or her vehicle recklessly or negligently, whether there was some kind of mechanical malfunction on the bus, or whether some other form of negligence was present.
In putting these cases together, having an experienced attorney at one’s side is greatly helpful.
