Brain Injury Possibly Linked To Fort Hood Shooting
On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Brain Injury on Friday, April 4, 2014.
There is a possibility that a brain injury could be linked to the Fort Hood shooting that took place on April 2nd, rocking the state of Texas. Fort Hood is the same place where another mass shooting on a military base took place a few years ago. This time, the gunman left three dead and 16 injured in his wake. He eventually turned the gun on himself and committed suicide when he was confronted by the police forces. It was apparent that he was acting alone, so the situation was determined to be safe and secure after he had killed himself.
Initial reports speculated about the possibility of a terrorist attack before many details were known. After they came out, though, it was clear that there was no link at all to terror. Instead, there is a chance that the actions were related to a brain injury that the soldier sustained while he was serving in a combat zone overseas. It was documented that the solider had suffered from mental health issues in the past, which played a role in the shooting.
The interesting part about the brain injury, however, is that the solider reported it himself. He was not hurt in any physical manner that was required to be reported by his commanders while serving in the military. Still, he took the time to report the injury on his own. The links are still being investigated, as they will be for some time.
Whenever anyone suffers a brain injury through an accident or as part of their job, they have certain rights that cannot be ignored. Those rights may extend to the ability to seek compensation for costs that are related to treatment.
