Are There Any Regulations On Truck Load Sizes In Texas?
On behalf of Lovett Law Firm posted in Truck Accidents on Thursday, December 25, 2014.
In Texas, there are regulations for the legal load amounts on trailers or in commercial vehicles. This load amount is in place to prevent tractor-trailers from overturning or being too dangerous on the roadways. If these regulations aren’t followed, the driver or his or her company could face penalties or fines. Additionally, driving with too large of a load can be potentially dangerous.
These regulations can come into play after being in a car accident, especially if you’ve been hurt by a truck that was carrying a heavy load. For instance, if you were struck by a vehicle that was over 110 feet in length, then there should have been a pilot car in the rear to identify the oversized load. If the vehicle is over 125 feet long, then there should have been a car in the front and back to identify the oversized vehicle in order to prevent accidents.
If there was an overhang that you collided with, then you need to be sure that the rules were followed for it. For instance, if there is an overhang of up to 25 feet, then there should be a pilot car in front to identify the oncoming load. If the vehicle is on a four-lane road or larger, there needs to be at least one pilot car in the rear and front.
If you’ve been in an accident due to unsafe driving conditions because of an oversized vehicle that wasn’t following regulations, you may be able to seek compensation for your injuries. These requirements are put into place to keep drivers like yourself safe, and you shouldn’t have to suffer if someone doesn’t want to follow them.
